Ripple CTO Sets the Record Straight about XRP Once and for All

In a recent video shared by Xaif on X, David Schwartz, Chief Technology Officer at Ripple , directly addressed and debunked one of the most persistent myths in the crypto space: the belief that Ripple controls the XRP Ledger. According to Schwartz, this misconception is not only false but also fundamentally misunderstands how the XRP Ledger operates. “By far the biggest misconception is that Ripple somehow controls the ledger,” he said. “It’s a public blockchain. Every node enforces every rule. The consensus model doesn’t control the blockchain—it’s got censorship resistance as a built-in network feature.” Schwartz explained that Ripple operates only around 1% of the network, a tiny fraction of the more than 35 validators that currently maintain the decentralized system. He emphasized that most of the validators are independent of Ripple, and the network’s rules are objective, not subject to the whims of any single entity. David Schwartz sets the record straight once and for all! Ripple does NOT control the $XRP Ledger It’s a public, decentralized blockchain Ripple runs ~1% of the network No secret backdoor No censorship possible Biggest misconception is Ripple controls XRP FALSE! pic.twitter.com/lzO2anFPYg — Xaif Crypto | (@Xaif_Crypto) August 7, 2025 A Public Ledger, Not a Private System Schwartz made it clear that the XRP Ledger has run since 2012 as a fully decentralized blockchain, governed by a global, distributed network of validators. Unlike private or permissioned chains, no one, including Ripple, can unilaterally block or censor transactions. He added that while Ripple is an active contributor to the ecosystem, supporting infrastructure upgrades, developer grants, and community programs, it has no control over the ledger itself. “We would love for everybody to trust us completely,” Schwartz said, “but people having to trust us is all downside.” He further noted that the company has no interest in gaining control over the network. Doing so would only create external pressures and potential vulnerabilities. “We wouldn’t want to be able to censor transactions because then people could pressure us to do so,” he said. “That’s not the kind of role we want.” Schwartz also emphasized the transparency inherent in blockchain networks like XRP’s. “If a transaction were ever censored, everyone would know,” he said. “There’s no incentive for secrecy. The system is designed to be fair, open, and trustless.” We are on twitter, follow us to connect with us :- @TimesTabloid1 — TimesTabloid (@TimesTabloid1) July 15, 2023 Solid Support Amid Growing Confidence At the time of report time, XRP is trading at approximately $3.21, with a 24-hour range between $3.03 and $3.37. The token has shown resilience despite recent market fluctuations and has been buoyed by increasing regulatory clarity following the conclusion of Ripple’s long-running case with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. XRP could climb to $5 by year-end, driven by fundamental improvements, developer ecosystem growth, and increasing investor confidence. Forecasts suggest the path forward for XRP remains strong, especially with lingering doubts about centralization now addressed head-on by Ripple’s top executive. A Decentralized Ledger with Renewed Clarity David Schwartz’s remarks, amplified by Xaif’s post, reinforce a vital truth for the crypto community: Ripple does not control XRP. The XRP Ledger is—and always has been—public, decentralized, and censorship-resistant. With this myth laid to rest and market momentum accelerating, XRP stands on firmer ground than ever.
