Starlink successfully demonstrate direct-to-cell satellite technology in Ukraine

Elon Musk’s Starlink has successfully demonstrated its direct-to-cell satellite technology in Ukraine. These satellites beam signals directly to mobile phones on the ground, allowing voice, text, and eventually broadband data services to work without relying on physical network infrastructure. “Direct-to-cell technology aims to provide reliable connectivity when terrestrial networks are unavailable,” Kyivstar said in its statement. Commercial rollout plans set for later this year Starlink’s satellite connectivity infrastructure has drawn interest from telecom operators attempting to fill coverage gaps in remote regions. Terrestrial networks can be expensive to operate in sparsely populated areas or difficult-to-access locations such as mountainous terrain.
